Last night Senate Democrats voted to remove the public option from the senate’s version of the health care bill! Though this is good news for conservatives I cannot sit here and claim victory, it is with a heavy heart that I think of how, by a vote of 54-45, the senate killed an amendment to defund abortions in this new health care plan.

Chuck Hopson, a state representative in the state of Texas, announced today that he would be switching parties from Democrat to Republican. Representative Hopson won his last general election by 114 votes and was probably looking at a tough re-election with the momentum that Republicans are gaining.

Today Senator Lamar Alexander the republicans number three man in the senate leadership backed down from his responsibility as a defender of conservative principles and the party he represents. He broke party lines and pledged his vote for the moderate Judge Sonya Sotomayor’s conformation to the Supreme Court bench.

Who will replace Mel Martinez as Florida’s Junior U.S. Senator? At this point we have 2 candidates in the republican primary, Marco Rubio, and Charlie Crist. With the State of Florida voting for Obama in the ‘08 elections, democrats are drooling over the chance to pick up another senate seat, and republicans are scrambling to ensure that they have a viable candidate who can bring them a victory in 2010.

The belief that the US Constitution is a “living” document, whose interpretation must change with the times, has grown increasingly popular in the twentieth century. This essay will point out two of the dangerous flaws with the idea of this interpretation and demonstrate that the Constitution is not something whose meaning can be changed to fit the wants and demands of arbitrary judges.
