What do you think of Joe Wilson? PDF Print E-mail
Sep 15, 2009
Congress voted today to issue a public sanction for US Representative Joe Wilson who by now you are no doubt acquainted with. He is the man who gave the outburst directed at Obama last week during the President’s speech on Healthcare Reform to the joint session of Congress.

Liberal leaning members of congress including newly turned (D ) Arlene Spector have been calling for a sanction to be passed to rebuke Congressman Wilson for his irreverent and shocking behavior. Some have even suggested that behavior such as that of its kind should be made illegal in the future. For those who haven’t heard the 62 year old (R ) Congressman from South Carolina was in attendance last week for the joint session of Congress which President Obama called to address the issue of Healthcare Reform. The President was responding to what he called “cynical lies” from individuals who are seeking to question the validity of the Government run healthcare bill he and his fellow liberals are trying to push. Congressman Wilson exclaimed “You lie!” in response to the President’s comments. This brought boos from the floor and angry looks from Speaker Pelosi and Vice President Joe Biden who were sitting behind the President. The controversy that this action by Rep. Wilson has produced has been very stimulating to watch and has been enjoyed to no end by the media who find it impossible to resist controversy of any kind.

But hey! Does Rep. Joe Wilson’s outspoken moment during Obama’s speech merit a sanction and public rebuke from the floor of Congress or is it a simple matter of freedom of speech? Should he or anyone who represent the people of their respective states be reprimanded for a public show of defiance to a President who has sided so far left on the issue of Healthcare reform that he has even drawn disapproval from some in his own party? I also failed to mention that Congressman Wilson called the White House and apologized for his actions to the President. Why have we not moved on since that apology? Wilson is up for reelection in his district in 2010 and recent surveys have found his support to be holding despite his recent behavior. I don’t agree with what he did and I certainly feel it was inappropriate. But I know that I do agree that the President is misleading the Country in regards to the repercussions of this bill and he is misguiding the people and leading them down a road that will lead to destruction. I have watched the videos of the town hall meetings by leading Politicians to discuss healthcare with their constituents and my determination is that perhaps the Congressman’s outcry speaks for the frustration that many Americans have regarding the issue of Government and the dangers of its control of healthcare.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this subject. Please feel free to email me with your opinions regarding Congressman Wilson and the healthcare debate.
